Ex oriente…– III is a part of the book series dedicated to the work of several famous contemporary composers from the former USSR.

The first two issues of Ex oriente… were published by Verlag Ernst Kuhn (Berlin) in 2002 and 2003 and represented portraits of the composers of different generations and artistic trends. Ex oriente…– I: Nikolai Sidelnikov, Vladimir Martynov, Andrei Eshpai, Galina Ustvolskaya, Boris Chaikovsky, Yury Kasparov, Arvo Pärt, Viktor Suslin, Dmitry Smirnov, Elena Firsova. Ex oriente…– II: Andrei Volkonsky, Sergei Slonimsky, Alemdar Karamanov, Valentin Silvestrov, Nikolai Karetnikov, Roman Ledenyov, Faraj Karaev, Victor Ekimovsky, Vladimir Tarnopolsky.

The third part of this series comprises portraits of eight more composers: Philip Gershkovich, Boris Tishchenko, Leonid Grabovsky, Alexander Knaifel, Vladislav Shoot, Alexander Vustin, Alexander Raskatov and Sergei Pavlenko.

The composers featured in all three parts of this book series come from different regions of the former USSR: from Russia (Moscow, St. Petersburg), Estonia, Ukraine, Azerbaijan, Crimea. Some of them are now resident in Western Europe and the USA. But all of them are representing the image of great Russian culture of the second part of the 20th century. All the articles are actualized till the beginning of 2003.
