This issue is the second part of the book series  Ex oriente…dedicated to the work of several famous contemporary composers from the former USSR.

The first issue – Ex oriente…– I was published by Verlag Ernst Kuhn (Berlin) in 2002 and represented portraits of the following composers: Nikolai Sidelnikov, Vladimir Martynov, Andrei Eshpai, Galina Ustvolskaya, Boris Chaikovsky, Yury Kasparov, Arvo Pärt, Viktor Suslin, Dmitry Smirnov, Elena Firsova.

Ex oriente…II contains portraits of nine composers of different generations and artistic trends: Andrei Volkonsky, Sergei Slonimsky, Alemdar Karamanov, Valentin Silvestrov, Nikolai Karetnikov, Roman Ledenyov, Faraj Karaev, Victor Ekimovsky and Vladimir Tarnopolsky. The lists of composer’s works are provided at the end of each article and actualized till the beginning of 2003. The series Ex oriente… will be continued.
